Kartaway (Qld.)
Pty.Ltd. was
created in 1984 when Victorian businessman Tony (A.J.) Whelan and Queensland
businessman Ted G.E.O,Donnell saw a niche market for waste removal in the Queensland
construction industry. The company now has extensive operations throughout
Brisbane and metropolitan areas, with regional offices located on the Gold
and Sunshine Coasts. The company currently
employs 18 full time staff, and 36 contractors with an annual turnover in
excess of $7,000,000, and is licensed to transport waste in the following
shire councils and cities.

With a regular client
base of over 900, we cater to a large cross section of the building and
construction industry, from the small operator to the multinationals. In the construction
industry, where waste management is now high on the list of priorities, we
assist our clients to manage their waste more effectively, by working with
them and recommending the best possible methods for waste removal. This takes
the form of waste audits, where we actually visit the building sites to
assess factors such as:
This type
of work e.g. housing estates, high rise CBD buildings etc., can be covered by
all of our bin sizes, ranging from 2 cubic metre to 23 cubic metre, most of
which are also registered as lift bins. We are also able to provide chutes
for the removal of rubbish from high rise buildings direct into our larger
bins e.g. 6, 7, 10, 12, 15 and 23 cubic metre. Our large domestic market is serviced by either a 2, 3 or 4 cubic metre miniskip. Our fleet of miniskip trucks because of their compact size, can operate in confined or very difficult sites, such as narrow driveways. Their light weight makes them a safe and efficient way of collecting waste at the point of generation. |

In 1987 the CP:50
compactor unit received an Australian Design Award from the Industrial Design
Council of Australia, being independently judged for technical, human and
commercial factors, and recognised for outstanding design. The system is unique in
that it provides many advantages over regular waste removal methods. The
compactor substantially reduces waste disposal costs by decreasing the volume
of waste by compression, and the bin is serviced when full. The normal type
of service offered by conventional bins is usually based on collection on set
days, whether the bins are full or not. Other features of the compactor are

The CP:50
compactor is ideally suited to restaurants, clubs, basements in high rise
buildings, island resorts and manufacturing plants or any application where
waste is generated and space is a premium. The unit comes in a number of
configurations, such as a side lifter to accommodate wheelie bins, slide top
and custom built hoppers for special applications. Under our rental
agreement, compactors are installed for a fixed period and remain the
property of Kartaway, with all maintenance being carried out by trained
staff. Units can also be
purchased outright if required, with Kartaway entering into a service
agreement with the purchaser for the removal and disposal of rubbish. Bio
Accelerator - NO MORE SMELLS! Bio Accelerator is a plant
nutrient, formulated to accelerate the decomposition of biological waste
material and the reduction/elimination of resultant odours. It is not a
masking agent or biocatalytic additive and contains no enzymes, yeast or
cultured bacteria. Because of this, it aids micro-organisms to develop their
own enzyme systems in response to available food, thus counteracting
environmental stress and enabling the micro-organisms to do faster what they
would eventually do on their own. Product Applications:
The
company is currently importing Bio Accelerator from California, and
distributing through the Kartaway group of companies in all states. Scientific
research carried out through university studies in Australia, has shown the
product to be environmentally safe. It is very effective in reducing odours,
Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and suspended
